Emerging consumer trends coming out of COVID-19

For better or worse, the pandemic has changed the world permanently. With the economic crisis, new innovations and habits have arisen. This AVCOE’s blog covers some of the major emerging consumer trendshat brands should watch out for and utilize it as an opportunity.

The prospect of a pandemic has been a well-known systematic risk for many years, but no one could have predicted the exact timing or the nature of the current pandemic crisis. That’s often the way with trends too. That’s why at times like these when everything seems to be in flux, it’s useful for businesses to look at the emerging consumer trends.

Here are some trends that may transform consumers’ recent routines into lasting habits.

  • Work from home, stay at home

Most of the major trends coming out of the coronavirus involve the home because of the lockdown. The self-care and wellness movements have brought along products to help people stay grounded and staying in one place for long periods of time requires a constant fight for sanity.

  • Virtual Experience Economy

With immersive new technologies, people can increasingly get their experienced-based status fixes from virtual experiences, too. But now watch out for other less competitive virtual experiences like travel, retails, gatherings, and more to take on new levels of meaning.

  • Fitness

While gyms have been shuttered down, the demand for at-home fitness systems and apps have been booming. Fitness apps have seen an uptick in its users. Nike’s app reported an increase of more than 80% in daily active users and consumers.

  • Home decor

In recent years, a surprising friend has been trendy. Not dogs or cats, but plants. Becoming a “plant parent” seems to be all the rage now for 20 to 40-year-olds. Houseplant sales have also reported a drastic increase in its sales since the quarantine period. Furniture has also been popular as people want to spice up their interiors.

  • Food Delivery

During the lockdown, the demand for food delivery has boomed. Also, when the restaurants reopen once again, restaurant sales may spike up as people would be ready to get out after being home for months. The next twelve months will reveal if consumers will choose to stay home and call for quick home delivery or go to dine out with friends.
