VR and AR offer capacities that resonate with pupils with special needs. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) have recently helped teachers educate, inspire, and improve classroom interaction for students of all classes and abilities by making learning more accessible, practical, memorable, and engaging. By allowing users to experience difficulties through simulated situations, virtual reality also supports the development of empathy in others for people with disabilities.
The Department of
Electronics and Telecommunication at Amrutvahini College of Engineering in
Sangamner, which is a member of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society,
donated VR helmets to the students of Sangram Deaf and Dumb Niwasi Mukbadhir
Vidyalaya in Velhale. Sangram vikas mandal was established in 1984. It is a
well-known institute in Maharashtra that works for children with mental
disabilities and hearing impairments, those who are neglected by society. It
began with 35 students and since then it has expanded to 80 students. Classes
are held in the school from 1st to 8th grade.
The major
objectives of Sangram Deaf and Dumb Schools are:
- To bring all hearing impaired and
mentally challenged children with different abilities under the umbrella
of "Educable Spectrum".
- To sensitise the general public to accept and respect
people with different abilities.
- To make children with different
abilities a contributing part of society and help them live life with
dignity.
This event was
organised by IEEE student volunteers, Mr.Rahul Khatode, Mr.Rushikesh Khatode,
and Ms.Sangita Balu Jorvekar, final year students of Amrutvahini College of
Engineering, Sangamner, and Prof.Dr.Rekha Labade, IEEE Branch counsellor. VR
technology opens up a plethora of possibilities for differently abled students.
It is a way of integrating them into the culture and making them feel capable
of learning just like everyone else. A good education broadens career options
and makes the learning process easy.
